THIRD TO FIFTH GRADE

At the elementary level, campers will learn financial concepts through games, stories, videos, and fun group discussions and activities.  These activities will focus on budgeting, saving, and spending wisely. In the process they’ll explore:

  • Short- and long-term financial goal setting

  • How to create and use a budget

  • Spending tools and how to use them (checks, money orders, cash, credit, and debits) to establish good habits and avoid impulse purchases

  • Paying yourself first and the purpose of emergency funds

  • The basics of investing

  • The role of banks and other financial institutions

As part of learning about personal financial management, campers will also discuss how charitable giving can fit into their financial goals. At the end of the week, campers will select a local non-profit charity and the camp administrators will donate a portion of the camp proceeds to the chosen charity.

Campers will come away from their experience with increased financial vocabulary and fluency and an understanding of the core components of personal financial management.
